Understand Harold’s demanding campaign
The 1066 campaign required Harold Godwinson to respond to rival invasions across a span of time. In The Footsteps Tours, we follow the sequence from the northern fighting at Fulford and Stamford Bridge to the march south. We explain the military pressures created by distance, timing, long marches and successive engagements, helping visitors place the decisions made by Harold and his opponents within the wider struggle for the English crown.
Compare the battlefields that shaped the outcome
We visit the ground at Fulford, Stamford Bridge, Pevensey and Battle, connecting the northern engagements with William’s landing and the final encounter near Hastings. In The Footsteps Tours, we use the terrain and surviving site features to discuss movement, deployment and the demands placed on each army. The four-day itinerary follows the campaign geographically, with overnight stops that support the journey between Yorkshire, the south coast and London in sequence.
