Follow Richard’s path to the crown and Bosworth
Born at Fotheringhay in 1452, Richard became king in 1483 and was killed at Bosworth in 1485. In The Footsteps Tours, we place these events within the struggle between York and Lancaster, using Fotheringhay, Losecoat Field and Bosworth to explore changing political fortunes. Our historian discusses how the sites relate to Richard’s rise and fall, while distinguishing the documented campaign from later accounts and interpretations of his reign. Accounts vary.
Explore the discovery and reburial in Leicester
The second day links Bosworth’s battlefield landscape with the Greyfriars site, the King Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester Cathedral. In The Footsteps Tours, we explain the University of Leicester’s discovery of the king’s remains and the later reburial, connecting archaeology with public remembrance. A walking tour also visits sites associated with Ricardian Leicester, giving the itinerary a city-based dimension beyond the military events of 1485. Leicester adds remembrance context.
