Explore Bomber County’s wartime aviation sites
Lincolnshire contained 46 airfields during the Second World War, including bases used by heavy bomber squadrons. In The Footsteps Tours, we visit the Lincoln Aviation Heritage Centre and Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre, then link those collections with the 617 Squadron memorial at Woodhall Spa. Our historian explains how the airfields fitted into the county’s wartime landscape and introduces the people and units commemorated at the sites. Museum visits add context.
Connect squadron memorials with local heritage
We visit RAF Metheringham, the Waddington Heritage Centre, the International Bomber Command Centre and the 9 Squadron memorial at Bardney. In The Footsteps Tours, we can also tailor the route towards the Dambusters or the Empire and Allied air forces, using the interests supplied before booking to shape the visits. The Petwood Hotel is suggested for its RAF Woodhall Spa connection and retained historical items. The hotel reflects this history.
